Bobby Fox: Theatre performer shares his property journey

Theatre performer Bobby Fox dreams of returning home to Ireland.

Bobby Fox will be appearing at Carols By Candlelight at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve.

FIRST HOME

Ireland will always be my first home. I was born and raised outside a very small town in the

middle of Co. Longford right in the centre of Ireland. I am the middle child too so there’s quite a theme going on here – perhaps why I felt the need to escape to the other side of the world. I came from such gloriously modest means. Mam and Dad raised five kids on a shoestring budget and I wouldn’t change a bar of it.

Australia’s ‘sh*ttest town’ has some impressive real estate for sale

It may have been named Australia’s “Sh*t Town of 2022” but this major regional Queensland city has some cracking real estate at prices that will make cityslickers stuck in gridlock start frothing at the mouth.

Townsville, the unofficial capital of the North, was given the controversial title by satirical Facebook page ‘Sh*t Towns of Australia’ for the second year in a row.

“Brownsville won in an absolute mudslide, registering more than twice the votes of its nearest competitor,” the announcement on the social media site said.

“This is Towntown’s second successive brown crown, capping another successfully sh*t year for the Queensland craphole.”

Comedian Damian Callinan gets last laugh in 112-day home sale

1/18 Gilbert Rd, Preston - for herald sun real estate

Damian Callinan has sold his 1/18 Gilbert Rd, Preston, home.

Actor, writer and prolific funnyman Damian Callinan has sold the Preston pad where he honed his creative talents for a variety of comedy shows to a globetrotting fan.

And he exited with a joke, informing his agent he had drunk the Moet & Chandon champagne they left for the buyer and replaced it with a bottle of Aldi moscato.

Callinan move into the 1/18 Gilbert Rd two-bedder in 2016 and it was where some of his best gags were conceived for recent comedy shows including Wine Bluffs and his Mayor For A Day series.

Hoppers Crossing rebuild earns $130k bonus under hammer

Happy sellers and purchasers after a successful auction at 34 Branton Rd, Hoppers Crossing.

Ten years, three kids and a knockdown-rebuild later, vendors Danni and Ben Fahey farewelled their family’s four-bedroom Hoppers Crossing home on Saturday as they get ready to upsize in Kingsville.

The couple first moved into the 34 Branton Rd pad in 2011 with their two children, and lived there for more than seven years before the arrival of their third child made them re-evaluate the size of the home.

“Renovating it looked like it would cost almost as much as knocking down and rebuilding, so we realised we were better off to build a brand new home and reposition it in the best way possible,” Ms Fahey said.

Fewer homes being built as builders pull back

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Homebuilders have pumped the brakes on new single-family home construction this year, a trend that’s likely to extend into 2023, according to several forecasts.

Single-family housing starts were running at a seasonally adjusted annual pace of about 1.16 million properties in January, when the average rate on a 30-year mortgage hovered below 4%. By October, starts had slowed to a seasonally adjusted annual pace of 855,000, as long-term mortgage rates climbed above 7% for the first time in two decades, crushing many would-be homebuyers’ purchasing power.

The slowdown has single-family housing starts set to fall for the first time in 11 years, with another pullback likely in 2023.

Carl Reichardt, a homebuilding analyst at BTIG, forecasts that single-family housing starts will drop about 11% this year and double that in 2023, before climbing 5% in 2024.

Prediction: 15+ registered bidders for Townsville CBD cottage auction

Samantha Healy

News Corp Australia Network

There are already seven registered bidders for this rundown Townsville CBD cottage, but the agent reckons that will double by auction day.

Located at 273 Stanley St, the cottage is a bit worse for wear, with the brick front porch almost non-existent, parts of the gutter have come away, windows are boarded up and the 208sq m block is strewn with fallen branches and twisted foliage.

It is being marketed by Ian Clarke of Ian Clarke Real Estate on behalf of the Public Trustee, and will go to auction on Saturday at 10am.

“It has been pretty popular,” he said.

“There are seven registered already but I reckon that will double, or get to at least 15 by auction day.”

And Mr Clarke has a pretty good track record for drawing huge crows to his Public Trustee auctions.

Late last year, a hoarder house in West
